I too buy non-AG dresses from craft/town fairs and events like that. You can often get a better deal AND own a more one of a kind outfit- double win!

All AG,I wish I could sew I have seen patterns on e-bay for AG clothes.I have also seen some lately dresses lately that look like they are made very well that I may purchase soon after I pay for recent AG orders.
I can sew but really don't like to. I have bought a few handmade things and really don't like them as well either. From now on I'm only buying AG. A bargin isn't a bargin if you don't like it - right?
Right now I only have AG outfits, but then again I've bought more dolls then clothing so far in my collecting, lol. I'm open to non-AG outfits, but first I want to get the actual AG outfits for that character. Then after I have all her current stuff, if I see a dress I like, then I'll go for it.
I'm going to start looking for dress patterns because I do like to sew and I think it would be so awesome to make my own clothing...maybe even someday sell them (to buy more AG stuff, of course, lol) Are they really expensive to get off ebay? And if so, are there any other good sources for them?
When I was little it didnt matter if it was AG or not, just so it fit my doll (just had one doll during those years). My grandma used to have me design my own doll outfits and then she would make them for me...it didn't matter what I designed in my head, she could make anything...and I have to admit her quality was double AG's- she couldve had her own doll business...but she only made things for her own grandkids.
When I got a little older she let me help her sew the clothes and then when I was older I would make them myself, with her staying there to help if I needed it.
But now that I am older and a total AG purist, I can only have AG clothes. I keep my grandma's outfits in a special box where they won't get dirty or anything.
My little philosophy is that if its an AG doll, I want it to wear its own clothes, and that even extends within the brand- for example I can't put the historical dolls in AGoT outfits.
Along the lines of that logic, if I made a doll myself, the doll could wear grandma's handmade clothes, because they would both be handmade.
I do have one exception and thats Avelie, my made-up doll for my doll project, She is a second hand Molly and she can wear anything- outfits purchased from other companies, as well as homemade clothes- and the only reason for this is that since she is a character I made up, AG doesn't make clothes for her and therefore I am forced to. lol. I do have the fabric I need to make the pants and shirt for her meet outfit, and the fabric for her chirstmas dress- but no, I don't know if I will ever actually get them together...I wonder what our local seamstress would charge?? I have mostly homemade/non AG clothing. I like both, but I really want to add to my AG collection. Maybe when I'm older.....no money now..... [img]frown.gif[/img]

I have only bought AG clothing so far. I have this weird twitch, I have to buy the dolls only what was made for them. Just like I can't let Molly wear Samantha's clothing! I have tried many times to exchange my dolls clothing, but I sit there staring at them and thinking, "that's not right." I am not a snob though. As a matter of fact I have been itching to sew some dresses for my dolls, but I haven't got around to them, it takes so much work and patients, which I lack. But one day I will sew a dress, I am determined!
My historical dolls have both AG and non AG. I have tried to get each of them an outift from Dollie Dressmaker. I also sew for them. My other 18 inch dolls have all types of clothes. I sew for them also.
I have all three! I have all but two of Kit's outfits, several of Molly and several AGoT outfits. Oh-- and one of Kirsten's and one of Addy's too! I have many period-style/fabric pieces I've made for Kit, Ruthie and Molly. I wish I had more time to sew. And I have some handmade outfits I got from seamstresses. (My favorite eBay seamstresses are sinmo and alisewn.) This weekend, I'll be taking some photos of the girls in the Valentine's dresses I got from these seamstresses.
I have to say, I love them all!
